STANDARD OF VALUE

We all can hear Carrie Bradshaw say: "I like my money right where I can see it... hanging in my closet." I couldn't agree with Carrie this time since it's actually art I enjoy watching on my walls. "...I feel it feed me more."
This humorous yet critical artwork made of dollars was created by Mark Wagner and is really high on my Christmas wishlist this year. His artistic view on standard of value has been shown at The Getty Research Institute, Museum of Modern Art, The Walker
Art Center, The Brooklyn Museum and The Metropolitan Museum.
Get his version of Abraham Lincoln or my fave "Elective Surgery Poster" of Mona Lisa here!

  1. Oh, I LOVE this. I can write a whole analytical essay on this, honestly. I love how tongue-in-cheek this is, like a visual stand up comedy performance. Love love love! Thank you for sharing, Ira!

  5. So striking and creative! The money theme makes me wonder about the value of art, but what if the art is actually made of money!

  11. Interesting thought, LBG! Since art is also a kind of investment it will always have a certain taste of profiteering. ;)

  14. These are made form dollars? That is great. I do enjoy art, but I haven't invested in some for my own home so far, probably because I have been moving about every other year for the last couple of years, so my flat never was "finished".

  27. So cool. I love the commentary here. I usually try to not get too wrapped up with "meanings" but this is a little blatant hahaha. I couldn't agree with you more about art! Except I'm out of wall space because I paint in addition to buying artwork so I have tons of canvases around. :(

  31. Much as I love Carrie Bradshaw and all the Sex & the City sistas, I definitely agree with you on this one, Ira, I would much rather spend my cash on artwork than clothes, especially something as strikingly unique as this! I will definitely check out the Abraham Lincoln, too, since I'm a huge Abe fan :) thanks for the inspiration, honey, and hope you have a lovely weekend! x

  32. I always love seeing your new posts on artwork, I've discovered so many amazing artists! I agree with Carrie to a degree personally, because I feel more confident when I'm dressed my best, but the practical side always wins - or I would be broke right now!

  33. This is striking piece of art. Did you hear about the dude that had been studying the Monalisa and says he found layers of images behind that he believes are 3 different women. Very interesting. I love sex in the city and I like my money where I can see it too, in all things fab.

  42. I have such a deep appreciation for art. I haven't reached the point (or income) in my life where I'm ready to invest in great art, but until then I love admiring works through galleries or online. There is the wonderful collection from photographer Maciek Jasik entitled A Corrupt Nature. They are some of my favorite photos, if you get a chance check them out & let me know what you think!

  51. Great artwork can be quite expensive sometimes, at least we have museums and those poster shops. :) Wow, Zauni! Maciek's work is really deep. I know about his fruits and vegetables but the others were new to me. Love his moody interpretation of human nature's unfathomable dark depths. Thank you for the link, Zauni!! <3

very interesting paintings! In my life so far, I have spent a lot more money on books than on clothes...I love clothes but I love that feeling of holding a book in my hands even more.....and I must say I'm shocked when I realize that most people don't have a good dictionary at home. If there is something every household should have, it is a decent dictionary. I have about a dozen of them...I paid a pretty penny for every single one but I don't regret it.

as for that famous Carrie quote, I feel like dinner feeds me more than vogue:) I think I would always be more willing to spend my money on a good meal than on a fashion magazine.

Now, about paintings...I love to see them hanging on my walls too...and I like seeing my own paintings on my walls. I feel bad that I had to get rid of lots of my paintings because I haven't had the place to store them...so a lot of them ended in the garbage. Some were pretty darn good, but that's life. Every day I do at least a few paintings and I just can't store them all.
