"THE RETURN" - A FILM BY KARL LAGERFELD

While keeping up with Left Bank Girl's addiction and desire for Paris, I've
immediately remember the fantastic movie by Karl Lagerfeld which I've watched
on his exhibit last week. "The Return" of Coco Chanel, played by Charlie Chaplin's
daughter Geraldine Chaplin leaves me quite impressed and I hope so you!

The 30-minute short is about Chanel's struggle to impress critics with the unveiling
of her comeback collection in 1954 until she found success with the Dallas-based
Neiman Marcus, which was the supporter of her designs.

"It's America who rediscovered her, so this is a thank you! Without America,
she would have closed the entire operation." Karl Lagerfeld

I love how Geraldine play this charming and eloquent old lady who reminds
me somehow of my English teacher from the High School, Mrs. Zimmermann.
And who can be mad at this legendary fashion icon even when she claims,
younger women have not style or that she hates blue jeans and short skirts...

But I'll let you be the judge of that! ;)
Enjoy!

  1. Oh, how interesting! I've always been a cinephile but independent short films always warm my heart just a little bit, too! I haven't watched this one yet, but I definitely will now! Thank you for this little review, Ira, and have a great weekend!

I knew about that. Saw it in a documentary on Coco Chanel. So grand of Karl Lagerfeld to make a short movie about it!

Oh I still haven't heard about this film and I have to admitt I'm very curios. I love Chanel more than I love Karl, but I have to admit he is a weird and strong caracther. I'm for sure going to watch the movie.

  16. It's always interesting to see how success comes after struggle. I don't really idolize Coco for some reason, I love her work and the changes she made, but I think she was human after all. However I do find this film really cool.
